Spanky has always admired and looked up to his older brother Roman from the day they became brothers. He follows Roman wherever he goes and is always the happiest when they’re together.
“Roman is undoubtedly Spanky’s security blanket,” Roman and Spanky’s aunt Jackie Rogers told The Dodo. “Spanky will do nothing without Roman and constantly makes sure he is near him, and if he isn’t, he gets up and goes near him.”

Roman’s ear became bloated and infected around two weeks ago, so his mother took him to the vet, who revealed he has a hematoma on his ear. They arranged surgery to correct it, but sadly, while he waited for the surgery, his ear continued to worsen, making Roman increasingly uncomfortable.

Spanky didn’t realize anything was different at first, but as Roman’s ear worsened, everyone observed that Spanky was more gentler and more worried for his closest buddy.
“We had to take him back to the vet to check he could wait five more days for surgery, and I brought Spanky along for the journey, but we couldn’t go inside with Roman, so Spanky sat in the car crying/whining/barking for 20 minutes until Roman came back,” Rogers explained.

With the procedure scheduled, the family’s only option for Roman was to let him rest. During the day, when everyone is at work, the family has a Ring camera set up so they can check in on the dogs, which is especially vital now to ensure Roman’s well-being. Rogers was monitoring the video recently when she noticed Spanky staring worriedly at his sibling sleeping on the floor — and then he did the greatest thing.
“I see Spanky pacing for a minute while looking at Roman and then the bed, and then I see him dragging the bed to Roman, and as he’s dragging it, he’s almost as if to say, ‘This is for you,’ and then the next clip is them snuggling,” Rogers said. “I had to re-watch it multiple times, I was in disbelief that he did that!”
Spanky was concerned about his brother and wanted him to be as comfortable as possible, so he moved his bed to him so he wouldn’t have to move – that’s how much he adores his older brother.

Around 10 a.m., Spanky moved the bed over to Roman, and when Rogers arrived home that evening, they were still curled up together. Spanky knows his brother isn’t feeling well, and he’s determined to stay by his side until he does — and will do anything he can to keep him safe and comfortable in the meanwhile.
