Male students on a daring upside-down mission to save a dog that fell into a canal

When a dog fell into a canal, this group of strangers went above and beyond to help. What a rescue!

It’s always inspiring when people help animals, but some people really go above and beyond, going the extra mile to save the day. That was the case for a group of students who pulled off an impressive upside-down stunt to rescue a dog from a canal.

Jack Spencer Furmston and Ben Camphor, a pair of 20-year-old students in Manchester, England, were walking home from a coffee shop when they saw a stranger in distress.

According to MailOnline, a dog named Sumak had fallen into the Ancoats Canal, and its owner Batu Akyol was struggling to hold on by the leash.

As the dog was desperately trying to cling to the side of the wall, Jack and Ben decided to stop and help. “Everyone was panicking,” Ben told MailOnline. “I couldn’t let that dog down and not help, so I put my jumper down and sprung into action.”

As others joined in, they embarked on a daring rescue mission: Ben went over the wall head-first as five others held his feet. Dangling down upside-down, Ben was able to reach the dog in the water and pull him to safety.

The rescue was caught on camera by Dabhidh MchicEamailinn, who shared it on Twitter. Cheers can be heard after they get the dog to safety.

The video has gone viral with over 2.8 million views on Twitter, with many online praising the rescuers as heroes. What an incredible rescue! Thank you to these students for going the extra mile to rescue this dog from the canal!
