Desperate Pppy Seeking Home Sits In Shelter Smiling At Everyone Walking By

Courtney Wingate was visiting the local animal control station when she came upon three little Lab puppies in a cage. Wingate knew she couldn’t leave the cute puppies behind as the director of the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana, especially when one of them displayed the most endearing smile she’d ever seen.

Wingate summoned volunteer Sarrah Walton, who dashed over to rescue the 8-week-old puppies. Walton, an LSU fan, called the puppies Joe, Burreaux, and O after the school’s quarterback and coach.

The puppies tested negative for parvo at the clinic, but Burreaux, the pup with the heart-melting smile, became ill after arriving at the rescue. They hurried him back to the animal hospital, where he miraculously recovered.

Back at the rescue, Walton saw that if someone spoke to Burreaux in a loud voice and told him he was a nice boy, the pup would immediately flash his small teeth in a wide grin.

“It’s when you’re really sweet to him… “He has this smile as though he wants something,” Walton said to The Dodo. “It’s as if he’s saying, ‘Come pet me, come love me.'”

When the pups were ready to begin their search for permanent homes, the rescue shared a video showing Joe’s innate knack for fetch. Joe was adopted right away.

“The whole litter was nice and sweet, and they like playing,” Walton added. “Burreaux and his sister are also learning to fetch.”

Walton and Wingate began to consider what unique skill Burreaux might demonstrate in a Facebook video. He wasn’t as good as his brother at fetching, but he was a sucker for “sweet talk.”

“And we thought, ‘Burreaux wants a home so badly that he’s always smiling, trying to cute it up,'” Walton said. “So we made that video, and it’s now going viral.”

The video of Burreaux’s big grin has been viewed over 40,000 times in just a few days. Burreaux and his sister O, despite their newfound online fame, are still looking for their forever home.

When Wingate and Walton rescued them from the kill shelter, the puppies knew they’d hit the jackpot. But Burreaux and his sister hope to have something more permanent to smile about soon — a home and a loving family.
