We’ve seen some cute and unexpected animal friendships, such as a pit bull whose best buddy is a chicken and a cat who believes a young goat is its biological sister.
A brown mom cow and the little puppy she raised are the inseparable couple you’re going to meet. After Rookie’s mom passed away shortly after giving birth to the puppy, the cow raised the orphaned puppy on her own.
They lived, ate, played, and slept in a farmer’s barn for two years. Rookie followed the cow wherever she went, sleeping on her back and hiding between her legs when he was terrified or needed reassurance.
However, raising two cows is too much for the farmer, so he was forced to surrender the brown mom cow to another farmer who lived nearby.
The separation could not have been more heartbreaking for Rookie. He yelped and cried, refused to eat, and spent the day wishing his mother would return. Rookie even ran off the farm at one point to follow his mom’s mooing from her new stall.
In the end, the farmer changed his mind and decided to keep the cow for the sake of the puppy that loved her. Thank goodness it was a happy ending!
Since Rookie was so used to her bovine kin, it was important that she socialize with other dogs. So the farmer took his kindness one step further by bringing another animal into the mix… And since then they’ve had the beautiful life they deserve.
