He Was My Favorite Singer 30 Years Ago, But I Can’t Recognize Him Today.

Phil Collins, the rock star wonder, admitted a few months ago that he was no longer able to play the drums. While his bandmates were preparing to reunite for a new Genesis tour, the singer, who is 71 years old, announced the news to shocked fans.

Collins has since performed on stage in a number of locations across the globe, but his inability to stand during his concert in Berlin has many fans concerned about the singer’s health.

Collins played with bandmates Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks at the interesting event in Berlin. Fans could not help but note that despite his superb vocal performance, his health was declining. Collins was unable to stand during the performance, so he sat down and held the microphone to his chest as if his life depended on it.

While Genesis concertgoers at the Mercedez Benz Arena were thrilled to see Collins play, they could not help but be reminded that the singer is no longer the same man he once was.

Collins was a popular subject on Twitter because he was seen sitting down the entire time the performance in Berlin. Some fans even made the comparison between the British vocalist and Peter Gabriel, a former bandmate.

Fans swiftly took to social media to defend Collins, saying that despite recent health difficulties, he is still in relatively good shape.

One Twitter user said on Tuesday, “I’m not a diehard Genesis fan, but if I had to choose between the band with Phil Collins as the lead singer and Genesis as fronted by Peter Gabriel, I’m definitely going with Phil Collins.”

Another user of the social media site posted, “Phil Collins is trending because he’s still around for us to tell him we love him.

I saw him back in 2019 as just Phil Collins, then a few weeks ago on the Genesis tour, said one fan with optimism. He had the same appearance. Despite the vertebral issue, I can assure you that he is OK.
Collins’ health has been impacted ever since he sustained a spinal injury in 2007. Due to the injuries, he has occasionally been seen using a wheelchair. In September 2021, he acknowledged that he was no longer able to play the drums as well as he previously could. Collins said that his son Nick would be taking over the drums for the 2021–2022 Genesis tour during an interview on the BBC Breakfast show.

Collins was specifically questioned by the talk show hosts on whether or not he still sits behind the drums to beat the sheepskin. He answered:

“No. I wish I could, but my hand is so weak that I can hardly grip a stick. Physical obstacles can sometimes be a problem.

Collins is happy to be able to give Genesis one last try, despite the fact that he wishes he could play the drums better. He is happy to be traveling with them on their final trip.

“Yes, but you say stuff, you know. We’re all men our age, so I suppose in some ways, sure, I suppose it puts things to rest,” the singer remarked. “I think, yeah, just generally speaking for me, I don’t know if I want to go out on the road anymore.”
